"Cindy"

As Many Rounds As Possible (AMRAP) in 20 minutes:

5 pullups
10 pushups
15 squats

If given a choice between the two, what do prefer more: strength only or metcon only days? and why?

Post thoughts to comments.

metcon only. . . .and the reasons are very obvious. Although, very early on at Tribe, Deluca told me that metcon was the easier of the two to improve and my metcons are steadily getting better. Thanks to our coaches and the gang I train with at 12:00.

In all my athletic life, high school and college football, 10 years of off/on boxing. . . never have I hit my cardio/pulminary system so consistenly as I have in the last 6 weeks. I can feel the improvments.

Should have joined Tribe 6 months ago when I was thinking of it.

Strength only! All other aspects of fitness depend on strength. Doing 21 deadlifts at 225# is a lot easier when your 1RM is 500#. I say you're only allowed to disagree if your squat is as strong as Tim Carr's and you're performing WODs with the Rx'ed weight.

great point, Steve.

or you can mix the two elements up like we commonly do...but that was not an option.

So given the choice, I'd take the strength workout only over metcon.

Although being strong and out of cardio shape is no way to live a healthy life.

METCON METCON METCON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love to sweat!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But i will concede, that mixing the two -as we often do--is great because it tricks me into pushing my strength as well....but that wasn't the question, was it

If I had to take one of the two I would definitely say metcon. I like the competition both with yourself to try and get a pr, and with the other members trying to get the best time and pushing each other. I have really been liking the combination we have doing lately, best of both worlds.

strength because I'm a skinny guy and some of these metcons are ridiculously hard to do as rx'd with my current strength levels.

Dennis has the best point... I think it depends on your current abilities. Right now I need heavy metcons and light metcons because my strength levels are pretty good and seem to stay that way when I give them just enough of a kick in the butt by training hard during heavy metcons. I think the best programming is the kind that allows and cycles both. I think the coolest thing about CrossFit is that it's not just about the strength and it's not just about the metcon... It's about a crazy combination of both. :)

This is a tough one. I really need the metcon for cardio reasons but I love the strength work. Oh I can't decide - can't you ask an easy question like - doing crossfit or having triple root canal.
